The mission of The Foundation For Saving Sight is to bring hope and to restore vision to those who otherwise would have no access to sight improving care in the developing world.

Nestled at the foot of three volcanic mountains in the middle of the small country of Guatemala lies the natural beauty of Lake Atitlan with the colorful Mayan villages inhabiting its shores. One village in particular, San Lucas-Toliman, has become the home of the first eye clinic and eye surgery suite sponsored by the non-profit charitable organization Drs. Merck and Wallyn established in 1992, the Foundation For Saving Sight.

Foundation for Saving Sight

Relying on the hospitality of the New Ulm Diocesean Catholic Mission located in the heart of the village, and with the support of their families and their staff, and thanks to the generosity of many of their vendors and donors, the doctors are able to travel at least twice yearly to restore vision to many hard working yet impoverished people who have been blinded by severe cataracts. These images tell the story of the beauty, the faith, the familial love, the gratitude, and the hope these people possess.

The Foundation For Saving Sight is a non-profit organization. All funds raised directly support its mission to deliver sight saving eye care to the needy.
